The Senegalese defender inherits the no 26 shirt from the legendary English defender.

Chelsea have announced the signing of Kalidou Koulibaly from Serie A side Napoli for a reported fee of  £33m. The Senegalese defender has signed a 4-year contract with the blues.

The defender has already joined the Chelsea pre-season tour in the US. Koulibaly made his debut for the club in the 3-1 pre-season victory over Italian side Udinese. The 31-year-old has been linked to every top club over the last couple of transfer windows. But he finally got his big-money move to the Premier League.

Koulibaly posted a video across different platforms. In the video, he is seen asking legendary Chelsea captain and defender John Terry for permission to inherit the no 26 shirt at Stamford Bridge. The Senegalese defender wore the no 26 on his back during his time with Napoli and will continue with the same number at Chelsea. John Terry to Koulibaly: “No Pressure mate, you’ve got to keep winning trophies for us, okay?”

The signing of Koulibaly could be the make or break for Thomas Tuchel's side this season. The blues lost centre-half duo of Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rüdiger to Barcelona and Real Madrid respectively on a free transfer. Barcelona are still keen to sign both César Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso this summer.

The club are still on the lookout for defensive reinforcement. The list includes Leicester City's Wesley Fofana and PSG's Presnel Kimpembe. Reliable sources earlier today suggested that Chelsea were hijacking Manchester City's deal to land Brighton and Hove Albion left-back Marc Cucurella. The Spanish left-back has already handed in a transfer request in order to facilitate a move to a big club. The blues certainly need a few new faces in defence in order to really compete on all fronts this season.
