Meghalaya Police’s skipper Niwan-o-Gatphoh scored an absolute belter in the 22nd minute to break the deadlock but a second half brace by Nangkiew Irat striker Stephen Harry gave Nangkiew Irat their first win in the Gionee Shillong Premier League...

The skipper of the Police outfit who scored after coming off from the bench in his last match opened the scoring for his team in the 22nd minute when he dispossessed a Nangkiew Irat defender and dipped an absolute belter from the edge of the box leaving the goalkeeper rooted to his spot. His injury in the past few matches clearly depleted the Police front line and his two goals in the last two matches only goes on to show how much he means to the team.

After he belted about half an hour in his last match, he was deemed match fit and started today’s fixture and the Meghalaya attack looked like a different frontline altogether with him. His fast movements and incisive passing caused the Nangkiew Irat many problems and they could have had a clear 2 goal advantage at half time had it not been for Lalramtara Ngamlai who missed a golden opportunity in the 13th minute. Nangkiew Irat then got a penalty when a Police player handled the ball inside the box but Enester Malngiang’s spot kick was well saved by the Police goalkeeper. Stephen Harry then headed in a goal in the 41st minute but was adjusted offside, taking his tally of offside goals to two as his quest for a goal in the Gionee Shillong Premier League which he did get in the second half. Nangkiew Irat started the second half like a pack of wolves trying to hunt down a prey as they launched attack after attack right from the first minute of second half. The Police defence were able to keep them at bay only for the first fifteen minutes before Stephen Harry found the back of the net latching on to a pullback by Reson Malngiang to score his first goal of the season 62 minutes into the game. Reson Malngiang continued to impress as he pulled the strings of the Nangkiew Irat attack. He was the unsung hero yet again for his team’s second goal when he won a penalty after he was tripped by a Nangkiew Irat defender. This time Stephen Harry stepped up and made no mistake as Nangkiew Irat completed their comeback.

Stephen Harry had the chance to complete his hattrick in the 85th minute of the game connecting to a free kick but his header went harmlessly wide off the goalpost. Reson Malngiang then nearly capped off his outstanding performance with a goal but his shot in injury time could only find the side netting. Meghalaya Police tried to upset Nangkiew Irat by pulling a goal back but Nangkiew Irat defended well to hold on to their first win of the season.
