North East United FC today formally unveiled its new team kit for the upcoming season of the Indian Super League. It was a splendid and eye-catching show where the team owner and bollywood actor John Abraham along with his players walked the ramp with their new kit designed by their official kit partner Performax. During the show John with his team coach Nelo Vingada took questions from the media present at the occasion. During the interaction Abraham said he is feeling lucky to have the North East as his second home and feels blessed to have such wise fans here in the North East. Terming football as the region's staple sports he said he is committed to working for the upliftment of football here from the grassroots and the proposed plan for his academy is in full swing. He also mentioned and thanked Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal for his contribution towards the development of the sport and said that Assam government has assured all possible help to the team.Khel Now TV Video from Press conference.
Commenting on the availability of tickets, he said that in the next couple of days it will be available with the ISL's online partners and at the stadium. Tickets may cost a bit more this time as stadium revenue is one of the most important factors to run a club, he said.
North East United FC will play the season opener against Kerela Blasters on 1 October. The opening ceremony is going to be a gala one with the presence of Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni and many bollywood celebraties including Ranbir Kapoor, Abhishek Bachchan, Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan and Amitabh Bachchan according to information given to the media at the occasion.
In an exclusive chat with Khel Now on the sidelines of the event Abraham said that the preparation of his team is the best it has been in the three seasons of the ISL. However, he did admit to concerns about the injuries caused to Sasha Aneef and Fabio Neves. He said Sasha may be fit in 3-4 weeks but Fair has been ruled out for the season and will be replaced .
When asked where he sees his team on 10 December, he replied with his typical smile, 'with the Cup.'
