The player made his Premier League debut in May becoming the youngest ever to do so

Liverpool have completed the signing of Fulham youth star Harvey Elliott after the player refused to extend his youth contract with the relegated Cottagers.

In the process, Liverpool beat fellow competitors FC Barcelona, Paris St-Germain and RB Leipzig to the signature of the Fulham academy graduate.

Elliott made news last year when he was sent on by then Fulham manager Slavisa Jokanovic as an 81st-minute substitute in the third round of the EFL Cup against Millwall in September becoming the youngest ever player to feature for the club at the age of 15 years and 174 days.

He was then sent in as an 88th-minute substitute by manager Scott Parker in a 1-0 defeat against Wolves in the Premier League on May 4. At the age of 16 years and 30 days, Elliott became the youngest ever player to make his Premier League debut breaking the record set 12 years ago by Matthew Briggs who was 16 years and 68 days when he was given his Premier League debut by Fulham as well.

Elliott has been capped by England in the U-15 and U-17 age levels and having signed for Liverpool, he will now be part of the squad for Liverpool’s friendly game against Napoli on Sunday and for the final preseason game against Lyon on Wednesday.

Elliott was slotted in as an attacking midfielder but can also double up as a right-winger owing to his pace and dribbling ability.

The signing of the U-17 international is the second that Liverpool have completed this summer after the initial signing of 17-year-old Dutch centre-back Sepp Van Der Berg from PEC Zwolle in their bid to snap up young talent for the future.

Liverpool will round off their pre-season campaign as mentioned before against French club Lyon before returning back to England for the FA Community Shield game, the annual English football curtain-raiser against Manchester City.

The Reds resume their quest for the Premier League title 30 years in the waiting against newly promoted Norwich City at Anfield in the midnight fixture (IST) on Friday, August 9.
