The NorthEast United head coach also revealed that the Highlanders are looking to add two more players to the squad.

NorthEast United FC slumped to their first away loss of Hero Indian Super League (Hero ISL) 2019-20 as they went down 2-0 against FC Goa at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Goa on Wednesday. The result also extended the Highlanders' winless run in the competition to six matches. Following the game, NorthEast United head coach Robert Jarni spoke in the post-match press conference.

The Highlanders conceded the first goal of the match in the 69th minute after NorthEast defender Mislav Komorski’s outstretched leg directed the ball into his own net in the 69th minute. The second goal, on the other hand, was from a penalty. At the post-match press conference, NorthEast head coach Robert Jarni admitted that both the goals came about from unfortunate circumstances and said, “The first half, we played well and created some chances. The second half we lost out on possession and we conceded. The first goal was important.”

Preceding the second goal, NorthEast midfielder Jose Leudo was sent off for a last man challenge on Goa’s Ferran Corominas inside the box, which resulted in the penalty. Asked what he thought of the decision, the Croat said, “I don’t want to speak about the decision. It was a call by the referee and I have to accept it.”

Asked if he thought his team was outplayed by Goa on the night, Jarni responded, “Yes, a bit in the second half.”

One notable absentee in NorthEast’s starting line-up on the night was the team’s top scorer Asamoah Gyan, who missed out due to an injury. Asked about the current status of the Ghanaian, Jarni revealed, “Yes, Gyan is injured. Unfortunately, he can’t play and I think, it’s finished for him. We are looking to bring in two new players.”
