Roberto Carlos recently interacted with his fans through an Instagram live video session. He talked about the years in which he played for Real Madrid and was instrumental in the club’s three UEFA Champions League titles during that time period. The Brazilian put some light on their seventh Champions League victory, which came in 1998 when they defeated Juventus in the final.

“We played so well in the Final against Juventus for La Septima. Juve had many chances to score but we still won 1-0, we won that game not only with our quality but also with our motivation, we wanted it more," Roberto Carlos recalled.

"I will never forget that night, we went to Cibeles after the game and the streets were full and packed with Real Madrid fans singing and celebrating. If I were to pick one, that would be my favorite memory of my years in Real Madrid,” he added.

The 47-year-old was fortunate to share the dressing room with some of the most celebrated and decorated footballers of that era. The likes of Zinedine Zidane, Ronaldo, David Beckham, Figo and Raul graced the Santiago Bernabeu with their supreme abilities at that time.

“You got to the dressing room, you looked around and you saw a Ballon d’Or winner, the best Spanish player, the leading scorer or the world’s best goalkeeper. Being part of that atmosphere was very special. Sometimes I thought to myself - look at what you’ve accomplished.”

Roberto Carlos also had fond memories of the former President of Real Madrid, Lorenzo Sanz. Aged 76, Sanz passed away on March 21 this year after being tested positive for COVID-19.

“He’s the man who signed me and brought me to the club. Just thinking about him makes me smile. He was a president but he was a fan more than anything. He lived for Real Madrid," Roberto Carlos added.

“When we drew or lose a game, he let us stay calm, but when we won anything he was the first person to give us a hug. He was like a father to all of us. I never called him Lorenzo Sanz and I tried to. To me, he was always Presi or President.”

The legendary left-back’s career at Real Madrid came to a closure in 2007 when the Los Blancos defeated Mallorca and secured the La Liga title.

“My last game was on June 17th 2007. We hosted Mallorca on the last game of the season and we were even on points with Barcelona, who were facing Gimnastic. If we both won our games, we kept the title. We started losing 0-1 early but managed to come back in the second half and won 3-1. An amazing win,” Roberto Carlos concluded.
