The 32-year-old will stay with the club for another season as they prepare to feature in the AFC Cup.

Talisman Roy Krishna has extended his stay with ATK Mohun Bagan, after leading the former to their third Indian Super League (ISL) title. The Fijian penned a new one-year contract with the club, thereby dismissing any speculation linking him with a move away.

Roy Krishna was one of the most prolific forwards in the ISL last season, as he scored 15 goals and delivered six assists in 21 games. The 32-year-old formed a lethal partnership with his former Wellington Phoenix teammate David Williams, who too had a remarkable campaign. The duo combined to register 22 goals and 11 assists last season, which amounts up to more than half of ATK's total goal tally (39).

ATK recently merged with I-League champions Mohun Bagan to form a whole new entity that will play in the ISL next season. Moreover, as per the AFC's regulations, the newly-formed entity will also feature in the AFC Cup group stage in 2021. That said, Roy Krishna signing a new contract comes as a huge boost for the club in their preparations for the upcoming season.

"I'm delighted to extend my contract with ATKFC Mohun Bagan. I had no hesitation in choosing to remain with the champion team," wrote Roy Krishna in a tweet.

"I'm looking forward to returning to India and getting back to training under the guidance of coach (Antonio) Habas. Hopefully, the borders reopen in time for pre-season training," he added.

While ATK Mohun Bagan are yet to officially confirm most of their new signings, with this move, more announcements are expected in the coming days. Interestingly, Roy Krishna had drawn links with fellow ISL competitors Mumbai City FC citing a bumper deal. However, the Fiji international has outrightly spoken on the decision to stay, which will certainly make fans heave a sigh of relief.
