Salgaocar hand Sporting their first league defeat in Goa Pro League
Sporting Clube de Goa were defeated for the first time in Goa Pro League courtesy a Liston Coalco strike in the 85th minute as the Panjim side lost out to their Port Town Rivals 1–0...
Sporting missed the services of their Ghanaian Centre Forward Francis Dadzie who watched his side go down in the last five minutes of a well contested match from the stands. Sporting Gaffer Mateus Costa pulled out all the tricks off his sleeve but couldn’t find the strike he needed.
The very first minute saw Green Brigade’s Mackroy Peixote launch a lethal strike from mid way which was saved well by Sporting custodian Ravi Kumar. After sensing the lack in creativity up front Gaffer Costa introduced his hit man Victorino Fernandes at the half-hour mark hoping to push in some momentum. In the 35th minute Liston made a dazzling run for Salgaocar on the right to get past two defenders but a vigilant Clemente made the decisive tackle to see off the danger. It stayed goalless at the halftime.
Crossing over Costa introduced Seriton Fernandes to link up with his partner Victorino, the both combined well and showed some positive signs early in the second half. In the 66th minute Ponif Vaz sent in a long ball to find a charging Victorino who shot it up into the skies. In the 72nd minute Sporting should have scored when Seriton and Victorino displayed some fantastic one touch play only to see the final footing go wrong. Salgaocar FC made the most of a thickly flooded Sporting box when a Kamo Stephane strike rebound to find Liston who made no mistake to give his side the decisive lead.
