The keeper pointed to the match against NorthEast United as the best match so far as they had come from behind to clinch three important points...

Atletico De Kolkata custodian Debjit Majumdar who is showing a lot of promise under the bars and has earned a lot of praise from coach Jose Molina attended an open media session on Friday before leaving for Pune to face ex-coach Antonio Lopez Habas’ FC Pune City on Sunday. The Mohun Bagan keeper from Hooghly did admit that he made the right decision by joining ATK this season as he is getting enough chances to showcase his talent whereas at Mumbai City FC last year he only played two matches. He said, “I must admit I made the right decision to come to Atletico de Kolkata. Here I am getting more opportunities than Mumbai City FC. I am grateful to our coach Molina for giving me the opportunity in the first eleven.” Majumder also admitted that he has learnt a lot from his experienced Spanish teammate Dani Mallo who is the reserve goalkeeper for the Sourav Ganguly co-owned franchise. “I do get to learn a lot of things from Dani as he is a very experienced keeper and has played in the Segunda Division of Spain. He tells me when to rush out and other things.” The boy from Hooghly still rues having lost an opportunity to save Uruguayan legend Diego Forlan’s shot against Mumbai City FC. It was Forlan’s goal that helped Mumbai clinch an away win against Atletico at Rabindra Sarobar Stadium on 25 October. The Mohun Bagan custodian managed to get his hands to Forlan’s shot from inside the box, only to see it fisted to the top of the nets. “It was a bad miss I must confess. I was in the right position to save the shot from Forlan. I still regret as we lo1st that match. Even if we had clinched a draw in that game we would have been in a much safer position.” The shot-stopper also confessed that saving his Mohun Bagan teammate Sony Norde’s shot from outside the box gave him a lot of pleasure and satisfaction. He said, “It really made me feel happy after saving Sony’s shot. Sony too came and gave a pat on my back after that match. He embraced my performance and wished me all the best.” On being asked about the toughest and best match so far in this season for him as well as the team he said, “The match against NorthEast was the toughest one so far as we were one goal down and then won it 2-1 in their home ground that too coming back from a loss against Mumbai City FC. It has given me and the team immense pleasure.” ATK still have seven matches to play in the league phase. They need at least 18 to 20 points to confirm a semi-final spot or a top two position. In this regard Majumder delivered a clever reply saying,”Our coach has asked us to take one match at a time. Now we are thinking of the Pune match and want to win it and there is no pressure at all on us. We are not thinking about Habas at all.” Photo © ISL Media
