SC East Bengal announce signing defender Narayan Das
The full back has prior experience of playing for the Red & Gold Brigade.
SC East Bengal have added yet another impressive name to their domestic core ahead of their debut Indian Super League (ISL) season in sturdy left-back Narayan Das. The defender was a part of Odisha FC in the 2019-20 season, however, was released by the club in the summer.
“Having donned the Red and Gold colours before, I know what it feels to play for SC East Bengal. I am over the moon to sign for this club which is 100 years old," Narayan Das said. “I have grown up watching SC East Bengal play and I cannot wait to take the field and put my best foot forward," he added.
A graduate of the Tata Football academy in Jamshedpur, Narayan Das began his career with Pailan Arrows in 2012 where he had his breakthrough season. The left-back’s first season in the ISL came at FC Goa, with whom he made a few appearances in the 2014 and 2015 ISL seasons.
In the 2015-16 season, he played a few games for East Bengal in the I-League before playing for FC Pune City in the 2016-17 ISL campaign. After another productive spell, he played on loan at East Bengal once again before returning to FC Goa for the 2017-18 season, reaching the playoffs with the club.
After playing for Delhi Dynamos and then Odisha FC in the last few seasons, Narayan Das is now once again back in Kolkata by rejoining East Bengal. The left-back will add some much-needed ISL experience to the side and also strengthen their domestic core with his knowledge.
Narayan Das has made 90 appearances in the Indian Super League till now. Last season at Odisha FC, he averaged more than five clearances, two tackles and two blocks per game – being one of the more efficient defensive outlets. He has a clear understanding and ability to keep opposition wingers at bay and will definitely add more bite to East Bengal’s defence.
The Kolkata giants are still adding more domestic stars to their squad after taking the decision of not registering a number of their Indian players for the ISL squad. They have signed Jeje Lalpekhlua to boost their attack, while more additions are expected by the century-old club.
