Alber Gonsalves and Cajetan Fernandes scored the goals for the Flaming Oranje…
Sporting Clube de Goa are back on top of the Goa Pro League table with a comfortable 2 - 0 victory over Clube Sao Miguel Taleigao. First half goals from Alber Gonsalves (8’) & Cajetan Fernandes (22’) helped the visitors walk home with all three points. Gaffer Mateus Costa made a number of changes to his side that faced Sao Minguel last week. Marcus Mascarenhas, Alber Gonsalves, George D’Souza, Seriton Fernandes, Shawn Noronha, Glan Martins, Subhasish Bose were handed a start this time around. The visitors were off to a flying start when the winger Gonsalves opened the scoring in the 8th minute. George D’Souza sent in a perfect cross which saw at least three orange shirts in scoring range. The ball was slotted in by the winger who made a fantastic slide from the right flank. In the 20th minute Marcus made a dazzling run on the left to beat his marker and fire a powerful shot, the keeper managed to deflect the same on to the post, the rebound which came back to the striker was shot off target. Two minutes later George was once again in the thick of the action when his well-directed corner was brilliantly headed by Subhasish Bose, however the Sao Miguel defender Raju Abbigeri intentionally handled the ball which would have otherwise ended in the back of the net. The referee Tejas Nagvekar without any hesitation pointed towards the spot while giving Raju his marching orders and reducing Sao Miguel to 10 men. Sporting’s skipper Cajetan Fernandes took up the responsibility and slotted home the second goal from the spot. The visitors exploited their one man advantage and moved the ball in their half to see off any efforts from Sao Miguel. The score stayed 2-0 at the break. Crossing over Sporting gaffer Costa introduced Victorino Fernandes and Avrhistho Fernandes in search of a few more goals. However the Sporting strikers missed a gazillion chances in front of goal failing to make any difference to the scoreline. In the 51st minute Seriton got hold of a good cross from Marcus on the right to take a clean strike of a half volley, however the Sao Miguel keeper made a brilliant save to deny the former his piece of glory. Marcus, Victorino and Seriton created some promising moves but neither of them could finish the same. In the 53rd minute Marcus made a mess of a good opportunity when he came head on against the Sao Miguel keeper. On the hour mark after displaying some good moves Victorino’s final placement went screaming past the net as everyone stood still and watched. The match ended with a comfortable 2-0 win for Sporting. With this win Sporting climb back to the top of Goa Pro League table with 24 points from 10 outings while Sao Miguel stay at the bottom with 3 points from the same number of matches. Pedro Gonsalves converted the same and made it 2-0 for the North Goa team.Latest News
