The Girls Senior Secondary School from Bhiwani sent Bangladesh Krida Shiksha Protishtan (BKSP) packing with a 3-1 verdict to enter the semifinals of the Under-17 Junior Girls at the Dr. Ambedkar Stadium here today..
The Haryana girls will cross swords in the semifinals with Umthli Second School from Meghalaya who beat SAI East Salt Lake from Kolkata 4-3, via penalty shootout after their quarterfinal ended in goalless draw at the end of regulation time. In the first semifinal to be played on October 8, Nagaland girls will take on NCC while in the second today’s winners will meet. The Haryana girls who are popular with the crowd did what was expected of them as they kept it as simple as possible striking twice in the first half and adding one more goal in the second to seal the fate of BKSP. Nisha opened the account in the 20th minute and six minutes later Smiksha consolidated before Sushma rounded it off with a clean placing in the 56th minute. BKSP was completely pushed on the back foot as was evident from their approach to the match today. After the two barren halves, the issue was settled through penalty shootout in which Meghalaya came up trumps as Nisha, Phila, Ibashisha and Antihun Majaw scored for winners while only Soni, Suman and Subhadra managed to covert for SAI. Earlier, the two teams played cautiously and keeping their citadels heavily guarded. Whatever little chance that came were not put into account as the teams were determined not to press hard for a winner in the regulation time.
