Thomas Tuchel’s 'erratic' behaviour leaves Bayern bosses 'frustrated'

Tuchel took over as Bayern boss in 2023.

German news outlet Sport Bild has reported that Bayern München manager Thomas Tuchel and Bayern’s upper management are not hand in hand the best of pals right now, as Tuchel’s behaviour during the recently concluded summer transfer window has been perceived “erratic” by the German champion’s white-collar upper management and money masters.

After Tuchel was appointed as commander in chief of the Bavarians on the pitch, news of tension within the dressing room was quick to arise. Tuchel was not reportedly not content with Joshua Kimmich for the number 6 role, he deemed the German “too slow” for the role and considered him apt for the number 8 position.

His views about Kimmich were not shared by the Bayern board, who were keen on acquiring a striker. The first point of difference came between the two when Tuchel prioritised the signing of a number 6 (defensive midfielder), meanwhile Bayern’s bosses wanted the club to desperately sign a proven striker who could be a like to like replacement for Robert Lewandowski.

Bayern’s management did get their wish though when they were able to sign England ace and Tottenham talisman Harry Kane. However, the signing itself was in the epicentre of drama and Tuchel relatively remained in the background of the signing while Bayern’s sporting director and president were major faces in the transfer. Apart from Kane’s €105m signing, Bayern signed four other players.

During the Kane transfer saga, Tuchel was reportedly prioritising trying to sign defensive midfielders like Declan rice and Joao Cancelo over signing a striker, something the Bayern bosses vehemently disagreed on with him. Eventually both the transfers were unsuccesfull, With Rice heading to the Emirates, and Cancelo eventually ending up at Camp Nou in a deadline day move.

Apart from that, Tuchel’s behaviour in the media hasn’t gone down well with the board either.

Thomas Tuchel's most recent assertions that the squad was undersized were not met with sympathy by Bayern management. The decision-makers had been irritated by Tuchel's repeated requests from the public for a No. 6, but they eventually gave in and chose Palhinha, however the transfer capitulated on deadline day. Internally, it is now being criticized because Tuchel is continuing with his pronouncements even after the transfer window has closed.

According to the managers, Tuchel should concentrate on working with the current team today because he was a member of the committee that decided on the squad (allowing Pavard to leave, allowing Stanii to go out on loan, and selling Gravenberch).
