Three best players from FC Goa's stellar win over Al Seeb in ACL 2 preliminary round

Dejan Drazic and Javier Siverio were the goal scorers for FC Goa.

FC Goa triumphed 2-1 over the Omani giants Al-Seeb in the preliminary round of the AFC Champions League Two. The Gaurs displayed sheer dominance against the Seeb club, and every Goan player on the pitch was nothing short of exceptional. They gave their blood and sweat for the team to create history for FC Goa, which will be remembered for generations ahead.

Dejan Drazic and Javier Siverio registered their names in the score sheet, while Borja Herrera and David Timor strengthened the midfield and sparked the attacking initiatives. Meanwhile, in the backline, Jhingan and Pol Moreno created a fortress which locked the visitors out and denied them from scoring.

All the players were worth every penny spent and gave an immense workload for the team. However, there were a few players who rose up the ranks and conjured the match throughout. Here we look at the top three performers for the Indian side in the FC Goa vs Al-Seeb, ACL 2 encounter.

3. Sandesh Jhingan

Jhingan put everything on the line for the Gaurs and was simply unparalleled. Along with Moreno, the centre-back created a strong and compact backline, which the Omani side struggled to break past.

Marshalled the defence and demonstrated how his side can defend as a unit. Made some last-ditch tackles to deny the opponents’ creative moves inside the 18-yard box.

Jhingan put his body in front of the ball during multiple instances and kept the opponents numb throughout the match. Had the pace and was like a poacher taking down the defenders one by one. The Indian international was very alert and kept his eyes on the ball throughout the game.

Till the very last minute of the game, Jhingan fought like a warrior and had a pivotal role in this generational feat for the club.

2. Javier Siverio

Siverio was uncanny in his ability to get to the end of the aerial balls and set-pieces and attempt his chance at goal.

He was the fox in the box, lurking inside the 18-yard space, anticipating opportunities and striking at the right time. He displayed a superior flair over the opponent defenders in almost all the aerial duels, and it felt like he magically bent the ball as per his wish.

His dominance with the high balls, coupled with his poetry-like moves inside the box, created confusion for the opponents, forcing them to commit errors. Seemingly headed-in the second goal for the Gaurs with ease to double their delight.

Siverio created a platter of opportunities for his side and was essentially the playmaker for his side. With excellent positioning and presence of mind throughout the match, Siverio is potentially one of the most promising additions for FC Goa.

1. Dejan Drazic

From the very first whistle, Drazic was very lively on the left flank, covering almost every blade of grass in the wing. He made some accelerated runs early on into the game, only to disappoint at the end as he made some bad judgments in making some weighted passes into the final third. However, as the game went on, he was a key figure in the final third and was directly or indirectly involved in all the attacking initiatives of FC Goa.

Later, Drazic came into vigour as he clinically scored the opener for the Gaurs after lifting the ball away from the onrushing keeper and chipping the ball to the open goal to break the deadlock for FC Goa. Whenever the team required him in the back to defend as a unit, he tracked back and did his duties.

He was lucky enough that an unintentional handball, which was a potential penalty, was revoked as a free kick by the referee. Was dancing past opponents and took shots at the goal, which piled up pressure upon them. With his stunning display of actions, Drazic proved his worth and reiterated why he should be a regular starter for FC Goa.

Who scored for FC Goa against Al Seeb?

Dejan Drazic opened the scoring in the 24th minute, and Javier Siverio added the second goal early in the second half.

When did Al Seeb score their goal?

Al Seeb pulled one back in the 60th minute through Nasser Sultan Al-Rawahi.
