These players impressed for their respective clubs and also won favour with the head coach of the national team.
The Indian Football Team are scheduled to host Qatar in their sixth game of the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers in Bhubaneswar. Igor Stimac has called up 43 players for a training camp, prior to picking the India squad Vs Qatar. The first set of 23 players will assemble for training on 9th March. Whereas, the other set of players from teams which are part of the ISL playoffs will join the setup at a later date. After having performed exceedingly well in the ongoing Indian football season there are quite a few exciting new faces called up by the Croatian for the national camp. These players have helped their respective teams by giving a new dimension to their game. [KH_ADWORDS type="4" align="center"][/KH_ADWORDS] Here are the 5 new players to look out for in the training camp, before the India squad Vs Qatar is picked: 5. Lalengmawia NorthEast United FC had a disappointing campaign, but a certain player called Lalengmawia who hails from Mizoram had a stellar debut season in the Indian Super League. The defensive midfielder who was part of India U-17 FIFA World Cup squad grabbed the eyeballs of everyone including the then head coach of NorthEast United Robert Jarni, who was very vocal about the teenager's quality in his press conferences. He even confessed to the media that he had a chat with Stimac regarding Lalengmawia’s qualities. The Aizawl-born midfielder averaged nearly 50 passes a game with a passing accuracy of 80.45%. To add to that he made 60 tackles, 24 interceptions and 18 clearances along the course of the tournament. 4. Sumit Rathi Sumit Rathi’s emergence in this season has been a great one. Antonio Lopez Habas playing an unconventional 3-5-2 formation meant there was a chance for an 18-year-old defender in the starting XI. However, Sumit Rathi is not one of the ball-playing centre-backs which Stimac prefers. Instead, he is a no-nonsense kind of defender. A series of good performances against top quality attacking sides in the league made him an undisputed starter in the ATK lineup. The young defender has a whooping 82 clearances and 15 blocks in the 11 games he has played in the league campaign and has only received one card during the same period. 3. Liston Colaco Liston Colaco is one of the surprising names in this list. The Hyderabad FC striker on loan from FC Goa only played 236 minutes and made seven appearances, mostly coming off the bench. But, his instinct for being a fox in the box was enough for Igor Stimac to give him a call-up for the camp and see his development. He has scored two goals in this campaign for the league newcomers. Arguably, the best right-back in the league this season, Seriton has been a tireless workhorse for the FC Goa side moving up and down and bossing the right-hand side. The Goan side are confirmed as group stage participants for the next season of the AFC Champions League and he has been one of the mainstays of the team. If he manages to impress Stimac in the training camp, he might just be in contention to make his debut in Bhubaneswar. 1. Jeakson Singh Jeakson Singh was also part of the U-17 batch along with Sumit Rathi, Lalmengawia and Amarjit Singh Kiyam to receive a senior team call-up by the Croatian. The 18-year-old midfielder has been a regular member of Eelco Schatorrie’s Kerala Blasters side. His distribution from midfield, vision and passing make him different from others at such a young age. The 6”1’ midfielder knows well how to use his physical prowess in the middle of the park.Latest News
