The Englishman has time and again delivered for club and country.
Harry Kane made his senior appearance for Tottenham Hotspur under André Villas-Boas. No Spurs fan can forget the era when players such as Kyle Walker, Christian Eriksen, Dele Alli, Jan Vertonghen, Danny Rose and so on played for them at White Hart Lane. All of these players left the club, barring the star striker, who is still fighting for glory on the big stage. Since his debut, Harry Kane has powered Spurs to a Champions League final, a second-place finish in the Premier League and more such highs.
Let’s take a look at some of the records held by the English forward:
5. Most Premier League goals in a calendar year
Harry Kane broke Alan Shearer’s record for the most Premier League goals in a single calendar year on 26th December 2017. Spurs were playing Southampton when Kane scored in the 22nd minute of the game. It was his 37th Premier League goal, breaking Shearer’s 22-year-old record of 36 goals in 1995. Kane ended up scoring a hat-trick in that match, ending the year with 39 goals in the Premier League.
Spurs won that game comfortably with a score of 5-2. The English forward can look back at 2017 as one of his best years, scoring a total of 56 goals in 52 games for both club and country. An interesting fact here is that Harry Kane did not play a single match in August 2017 due to injury concerns.
4. England’s joint-top scorer in major tournaments
Another record where Harry Kane went past Alan Shearer. In the Euro 2020 semi-finals against Denmark, Kane scored from a penalty save by Danish captain Kasper Schmeichel. That goal took his tally to 10 for England at major tournaments. England ended up winning that game 2-1 and reached the final of that competition.
England reached the final of a major tournament for the first time in 55 years. Unfortunately, they lost the showpiece to Italy. He shares this record with Gary Linker. Linker ended with 10 goals in 18 matches, while Kane equalled this record in 16 games.
3. Has scored against all his Premier League opponents
Harry Kane is the only player to have scored against all the opponents he has faced in the Premier League. He stands as the sole striker to have netted against all 30 teams that he has played against. He achieved this feat after scoring against Leeds United in a 3-0 win for Spurs. His favorite opponents are Leicester City. He has scored 16 goals in 13 league appearances against them.
He also scored against Middlesbrough in the one match he played against them. The English forward is still far behind Frank Lampard’s record of scoring against 39 different Premier League teams. But, Lampard failed to score against these five teams- QPR, Burnley, Watford, Ipswich Town and Cardiff City. On the other hand, Kane maintains a 100% record of never failing to score against any opponent he has faced in the Premier League.
2. Most goals for England in competitive games
Harry Kane broke Rooney’s record of most goals for England in competitive football. He scored a hat-trick in England’s 5-0 win over Albania in a World Cup qualifying game. Before this, he was just one goal away from equaling Rooney’s record of 37 goals.
He took his tally to 39 goals after this game. He achieved this feat on 13th November 2021. Despite not having a great season for Tottenham, the Englishman put on a great show for his national team. In the next game against San Marino, Kane scored four goals for his side in a stunning 10-0 victory, taking his count to 43 goals.
1. Tottenham’s all-time Premier League and European top scorer
Harry Kane might not have won any trophies as a Tottenham player, but his record speaks for itself. He has time and again delivered match-winning performances for Spurs and has acquired legendary status. After scoring twice against Everton in 2018, he overtook Teddy Sheringham as Tottenham’s all-time Premier League top scorer with 99 goals.
He currently stands at 171 goals in 267 appearances for the North London club. Kane is also by far Spurs' highest goalscorer in Europe, with 43 goals. He is followed by Jermain Defoe, who has 23 goals for Spurs in European competitions.
