The Tajik forward was part of the Mariners' I-League 2019-20 winning squad last season.

I-League outfit TRAU FC are very close to completing the signing of former Mohun Bagan star Komron Tursunov, Khel Now can confirm. The 24-year-old forward has already been offered a contract by the club, with the Tajik footballer all set to make his final decision in the days to come.

"TRAU FC have almost completed negotiations with Komron Tursunov. Talks have reached the final stages, and the club have also offered him a contract," a source close to the developments informed Khel Now. The source also revealed that the striker is expected to inform TRAU about his final decision in the next few days.

Komron Tursunov began his professional football career at FC Regar-TadAZ, a club that plies its trade in the Tajik League. He then joined top-flight rivals FC Istiklol midway through the 2017-18 season, and remained with them for almost two years. During this time, he also made his debut for the Tajikistan national team, and has since gone on to play 14 more international matches for his country till date.

In 2019, he also went on trial with Dutch first division club Utrecht for two weeks, with Norwegian top-flight side Rosenborg also expressing interest to sign him according to reports. However, he then chose to resume his career in India, having signed with Mohun Bagan ahead of the 2019-20 season. He played in a total of eight matches for the Mariners in the I-League, scoring two and assisting two more while also recording five starts. His final appearance in the league was on March 9 against Aizawl FC.

Mohun Bagan were later declared champions as the rest of the competition was cancelled due to COVID-19. Later, following their merger with ISL champions ATK in June, Tursunov's term with them expired and he returned to his home country. However, based on the information from our sources, the fleet-footed attacker is now all set to return to India once again - this time with TRAU FC, if all goes according to plan.

The 2020-21 season has already kicked off in India with the I-League Qualifiers that began in October. Meanwhile, the CEO of I-League, Sunando Dhar, also hinted earlier this month that the I-League is likely to begin in December, after the conclusion of the qualifiers.
