This comprehensive and star-studded list consists of the fastest hat-tricks ever scored in the history of Europe’s most elite club competition.

Scoring in any game is certainly worthy of celebration but getting three goals on the same night is the kind of stuff that top strikers dream about. Despite this, some professional footballers still manage this at an alarming rate, even at the highest levels of the game. Although scoring three in a regional league is certainly worth celebrating, there’s so much more at play when a player scored a hat-trick in the UEFA Champions League.

A competition where only the best of the best come to play, scoring a goal against some of the bigger teams can be a task enough. But time and again, teams produce surprising results in this competition.

Some players enjoy playing under such demanding conditions and even excel when the mass of expectation is weighing them down. These are the kind of players who have made this list - the people who have all had the audacity to score a Champions League hat-trick in under 12 minutes of action.

Here’s a list of the five quickest hat-tricks in UEFA Champions League history:

5. Luis Adriano vs BATE Borisov - 12 Minutes

The former Brazilian international striker scored three times in the space of 12 minutes during Shaktar Donetsk’s second Champions League group game against BATE Borisov in 2014. The most interesting part about the result was the Brazilian’s personal record against Borisov that season.

Having faced them twice that year, the Brazilian picked up eight goals between the two fixtures. He scored five times in their previous encounter, making this, arguably, one of the most iconic hat-tricks in footballing history.

4. Cristiano Ronaldo vs Malmo - 11 Minutes and 15 Seconds

The Portuguese maestro was on terrific form on the night as he led Rafa Benitez’s Real Madrid side to a comprehensive 8-0 victory. He himself scored four goals on the night with three of them coming in the space of 11 minutes and 15 seconds.

By scoring 11 goals in the group stage that term, Ronaldo went on to break the record of maximum goals scored in the group stage of the competition, which was previously held by Luis Adriano at nine goals.

3. Raheem Sterling vs Atalanta - 11 Minutes and 13 seconds

The Englishman seemed to be in the form of his life as Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City ripped the Serie A’s surprise package from last season - Atalanta. He was helped along his way by City’s influential midfield on the night with some excellent assists from the likes of Riyad Mahrez and Ilkay Gundogan.

Despite not being at his best in the first half of the tie, Sterling rose to the occasion in the second period, even squandering an easy chance for a fourth goal along the way.

2. Mike Newell vs Rosenborg - 9 Minutes

The Blackburn Rovers striker was responsible for scoring one of the most unexpected hat-tricks in the history of the Champions League. Despite finishing the group in fourth place, Newell managed to finish the season with a flourish by scoring a hat-trick in their final match of the group stage again Rosenborg.

The point worth noting is that this is the fastest ‘perfect’ hat-trick ever scored: a goal with the left foot, right foot and a header.

1. Bafétimbi Gomis vs Dinamo Zagreb - 8 Minutes

Quite possibly the only player here by the virtue of his teammates alone, Bafétimbi Gomis was part of the Lyon squad that destroyed Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League. Although he scored four goals on the night, they were all just tap-ins made by the sheer brilliance of the players around him.

However, the fastest hat-trick in the UCL will never really reach the level of Sadio Mane’s hat-trick for Southampton in the Premier League(2 minutes 56 seconds), these names are still in a class of their own, especially considering that this tournament itself, is in a class of its own.
