Unai Emery believes that Kylian Mbappe could possibly mark an era at Real Madrid instead of letting his potential be unfulfilled at Paris Saint Germain. The former Arsenal manager had coached Mbappe in the 2017-18 Ligue 1 season. However, the 21-year-old is now being touted to move to Real Madrid. His current contract with the Paris-based club lasts until 2022.

“Of course he has the ability to mark an era in Madrid,” Emery remarked. The Spaniard was asked to comment on which league he would advise Mbappe to play in. The 48-year-old slyly stated, “When I was in France, I love that he was there because I enjoyed it. When I went to England, I would have liked him to play in the Premier League.” He continued, “And if I return to Spain, I want him to be here.”

Mbappe has relished an illustrious career so far. He was a vital part of the French team that won the FIFA World Cup in 2018. The forward has already won three Ligue 1 titles with PSG and a solitary one with his former club Monaco in the 2016-17 season. Having represented PSG on 76 occasions in the league so far, Mbappe has scored an impressive 64 goals.

Hence, a notion has been developed in recent times that he has proven his calibre in France and it is now time to take up more formidable challenges elsewhere. “Look, surely there will be things from PSG that fill you up and maybe some will not, and there may be Real Madrid,” said Emery.

He further observed, “We are lucky to have and export the two best teams in the world, which are Real Madrid and Barcelona, and I would like them to continue having the best players in the world.”

In the 2019-20 Ligue 1 season, both Wissam Ben Yedder and Kylian Mbappe notched 18 goals. However, Mbappe was awarded the golden boot as all of his goals had come from open play. Now, the former Monaco player has requested the league to share the trophy or reward another one to Yedder due to this unique situation.
