Vinil Poojary signs new two-year contract at Churchill Brothers

The 23-year-old featured 10 times for the Red Machines in the I-League last season and also registered two goals.
Vinil Poojary has signed a new two-year contract with I-League club Churchill Brothers, Khel Now can confirm. The 23-year-old was part of the Red Machines' squad during the 2019-20 season.
"Vinil Poojary has re-joined Churchill Brothers on a two-year contract. Two other I-League clubs were also interested in bringing the midfielder in, but he chose to stay with the Goan outfit," a source close to the developments informed Khel Now.
The midfielder began his journey with Ozone FC in the Second Division League in 2018. Thereafter, he was picked by Churchill Brothers during the 2018-19 season of the I-League. Since then, Vinil Poojary has appeared 19 times for the Red Machines over the course of the last two terms. He had a memorable campaign last year after getting a good number of minutes on the pitch. He even registered two goals for the team, as they finished in eighth spot before the season was called off due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Football runs through the blood in his family, with his elder brother Nikhil plying his trade for Hyderabad FC in the Indian Super League. He has also featured for the national team in recent times under head coach Igor Stimac. Keeping that in mind, Vinil Poojary will be aiming to make it big in the coming years, just like his brother. he is currently treading on the right path and a move to any ISL side in the near future can be expected.

Meanwhile, Churchill Brothers have roped in former Gokulam Kerala boss Fernando Santiago Varela as their new head coach ahead of the upcoming season. They have also brought in promising goalkeepers Shilton Paul and Shibin Raj Kunniyil. With Willis Plaza and Glan Martins moving to Mohammedan SC and ATK Mohun Bagan respectively, Vinil Poojary will have a good chance to establish himself as a talisman for the team.
