The Goan coach is confident that his side will come out victorious against the metropolis club...

Churchill Brothers chief coach Alfred Fernandes will be looking to taste a first win in the I-League in front of the home supporters when they will face Mumbai FC at Tilak Maidan, Vasco tomorrow.

Churchill head coach Alfred knows the importantance of the match against Mumbai and said, “Tomorrow’s match is very important for us as we have lost the first match against Mohun Bagan.”

He is also aware of the Mumbai team’s performance in the last match and believes that it will be a tough match against the metropolis club.

“Mumbai’s morale will be high because they are coming here with a victory in the last match, so we are expecting a tough match tomorrow. Actually, we cannot take any team lightly in the I-League. All the teams are of equal calibre and any team can beat any team, but we will do our job and execute our plans on the field and try hard to come out victorious” Alfred said in confidence.

He further added saying, “I also believe that it will be a disadvantage for us to face a morally boosted team, I have told my boys that we are playing at home and grabbing all three points at home is more important. I have told them if you play good football and at the end of the match, you don’t have anything to show then it is not good for the team. So I have told them to go out there, play with passion and come out winners because it is all about putting points on the table,”

When asked if a draw against Mumbai will be a good result for his side Alfred said, “When we go out on the field, my philosophy is always a point is must and three points are always a bonus. So if they don’t give us a chance to score then we also do the same with them, so a point is important, then we go out for three points,”

The Man of the Match from the last match, Churchill’s U22 player Kingslee Fernandes showed brilliant performance and the head coach Alfred also did not forget to praise him.

“Kingslee is just 19-years old and it takes guts for a young boy to go out there and prove at this big stage. So I had told him to do the simple thing, take it as a practice match. Practically that is what he did there and he was brilliant. Hopefully, he will continue with his same form and contribute towards the good cause of the club,” Alfred said in admiring words and signed off.
