We are still in the title race - Sanjoy Sen
The Mariners boss remains optimistic despite failing to win against Bengaluru...
The Bagan gaffer was a happy man as his team held on with 10 men over the last half hour to gain a goalless draw at the home of the champions.
“When we look at the game, considering we were reduced to 10 men, if we analysed the whole 90 minutes, we played the first half well. Second half they started very well and got many corner kicks and free kicks. But we defended well considering we conceded goals in the last 2 games,” opined Sen.
The 56 year old felt that cutting off Bengaluru’s wingplay was key to his side garnering an important result to aid the Mariners’ title charge.
“We stopped the wing play. They didn’t get much chances except maybe Lyngdoh (Eugeneson)’s shot in the first half. The boys did well to keep them away despite being under pressure,” praised Sen.
The game threw up 2 major talking points with Subhashish Bose’s sending off and a goal being disallowed in the 63rd minute.
“I think the goal should have stood. I don’t know why the linesman put up his flag after the goal was scored. There is no point in complaining. We have to carry on. I don’t usually complain on events such as this. Those who saw the game will be the greater judge of the match than anyone else,” said Sen.
The coach added that he was unable to see what exactly happened in the event that led to left back Bose’s dismissal and hesitated to comment about the same.
[KH_RELATED_NEWS title="Related News"][/KH_RELATED_NEWS]The Mariners boss will be up against Roca again on Tuesday as the Mariners take on Bengaluru in the AFC Cup at the Kanteerava Stadium. However Sen played down the same stating that they had not yet put any plans in place for that game.
“Yes we will be sitting down with the boys in the hotel tomorrow and chalk out a plan. But in the I-League we have to also keep track. Aizawl drew a game and East Bengal will play tomorrow. We have played 2 matches less, but I believe that we are still in the race,” concluded Sen.
