The Italian felt his side dropped two points.

Marco Materazzi met the press after Chennaiyin FC’s game at Pune, and was somewhat miffed at his side’s performance. His team had taken a 1 goal lead through a stunning finish from Jeje Lalpekhlua but threw it away in the second half as they had to settle for a 1-1 draw. The Italian coach pointed out that Chennaiyin’s errors came from simple mistakes, something that only schoolboys would do. “What happened (today) is that we made three or four stupid fouls that not even schoolkids would have made,” Materazzi told the media on Sunday.” Materazzi continued, “I was not good with 1-0, that's why I am upset because we threw away two points. We had a game three days ago, but overall, we have had a good performance.” In the game, it was Jamaican Duwayne Kerr who started in place of Indian ‘keeper Karanjit Singh. “For me, they are both at the same level. What matters for me is that they cheer for us even if they are not playing. What happened after the NorthEast game was that Karanjit got a fever.” When asked if fatigue had played a part given his side were in action against NorthEast United FC in Guwahati just three days back, Materazzi replied in the negative. “No, I don't think that was a crucial factor. Siam Hanghal played well in Guwahati and then played very well today as well. He is only 20 years old. Those who I felt were tired, I took them off. I don't want to discuss the schedule but one thing I'm sure of is that the team with the least number of injuries will have a big advantage in the long run,” he said. Materazzi was not only critical of his side but also of the opposition. The World Cup winner was also keen on pointing out how Pune's opportunities came mostly from set-plays. “The way I see it, they had no shots on goal from open play. They only had two shots on goal from set-pieces. They never had any chances apart from set-pieces,” he said. The former Inter Milan centre-back then called out FC Pune City’s midfielder Jonatan Lucca for diving. “We know he likes to dive a lot. Out of three conceded, maybe one was a foul. If we do not have the experience to play their game, then this is what will happen. Or even worse.” Photo © ISL Media
