The FC Goa boss says his team are playing well although they have been losing.
Winless FC Goa take on Mumbai City FC in what is surely a must win game for the visitors in the Indian Super League on Friday. But, despite his side’s poor form FC Goa manager Zico is focusing on the positives. “Although we have lost games I think the team is playing well. Of the three games we lost we can clearly see that in two of the games the result could have been totally different. Those two games we lost more because of our mistakes than the merit of the other team,” he said. The Brazilian also asserted that Mumbai were unlucky to come away from Delhi with just a point saying that he felt they were on the end of bad refereeing decisions on the night. The Goans have conceded 7 goals so far in their four games and when asked to comment on his own back four the tactician said, “We have not defended well as a team. Most of the goals we have conceded are down to our mistakes. So, we have to improve on that and defend better as a team.” Currently the ISL requires teams to field a minimum of five Indian players at all times. Asked whether the league should provide more opportunities to local players the FCG boss said we must follow what works. “In the top leagues in Asia they have seven national players, three foreigners and one Asian player. This is good because it provides more chances for local talent. Now you see in defense, midfield and attack some off the Indian players are struggling to get games because there are only five spots. Now, more goalkeepers are playing. But, still we have to try to give more playing opportunities to local players. This will be good.” Photo © ISL MediaReport by Khel Now-Content Editor Mrunal Nakashe. A sports buff, he's also a foreign policy enthusiast and keen North Korea watcher.
