The Brazilian has reiterated that his team must play for the fans...
FC Goa boss Zico will be playing for pride when his side will take on Chennaiyin FC in their last match of the Indian Super League at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Goa on Thursday. FC Goa are already out of the race for the playoffs and will finish last even if they register a win in their last match, but head coach Zico is looking at the match with enthusiasm. “The motivation will be respect for the fans that come here to support us and to honour our jersey. It doesn’t matter if we are qualifying or not, we always go onto the pitch to win,” Zico said The Gaurs finished at the top of the table in the last season, but this season has seen a complete turnaround. However, the Brazilian coach refused to blame the format of the league and said, “I think there is nothing wrong about the format of the league. It may be because of the choices we have, while the other teams had better than us and in football sometimes you are at the top and sometimes at the bottom.” He once again reminded saying, “Even with all the hardship that we faced, we are in this situation because of very poor decisions of the referees. Otherwise, it would have been completely deferent.” When asked about the improvements in Indian football since the start of the ISL and how much marquee players are making a deference in the league. He responded, “Indian football is improving. You can see the clubs’ preparations. That is much more improved. They sign good and young players and most of the marquee players made difference in the game.” However, he did not forget to defend his marquee player Lucio and said, “Because of some problems, Lucio could not perform to his level this season.” Photo © ISL MediaReport by Khel Now Correspondent Ravish Narvekar from Goa .
