The Italian was in diplomatic mood ahead of the final game of the season…
Marco Materazzi will be looking to conclude the season with a win when Chennaiyin FC play FC Goa in the Indian Super League match at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Goa on Thursday. Even though Chennaiyin are out of the competition, the head coach Materazzi is serious about the clash and looking at it as an opportunity for his side to show their calibre. “We will play for the respect of the fans, respect for the Individual and for the respect of the club. Every game for us is a chance and an opportunity to show what we can do and we will take this match as an opportunity,” Materazzi said. Goa is one of the favorite venues for the Italian coach, as he has won all the three matches at JLN Stadium Goa, including last year’s Final and the coach said he will do everything to keep that record clean. "I am happy because I have good memories of this place but every game is different, so we will do whatever we can to keep this memory of this place and try to win the game," the World Cup winner said. Chennaiyin and Goa were at the top of the league this time last season, but this time it is exactly opposite to that. So when asked about whether he is happy with the format of the league he said, "What I can tell you is that I am not making it to the playoffs for the third year. I can tell you regarding my team but I cannot tell you about the ISL." The top three coaches of the first and second season, Zico, Antonio Habbas and Materazzi have been completely unproductive in this season and have failed to make it to the playoffs. But the Italian tactician was a bit defensive and denied comment on other coaches. “We conceded some late goals, this is the reason why Chennaiyin is not in the playoffs, but I cannot talk about Pune and Goa. They (Zico and Habbas) are really good coaches. I respect them very much and it would not be fair to say anything on their teams,” He signed off.
