Many clubs are interested in signing the Spanish shot-stopper

Many major teams, notably FC Barcelona and Man United, have taken notice of Joan García, a 24-year-old Spanish goalkeeper from Espanyol, who has emerged as one of the most sought-after names in the transfer market.

According to recent reports, the Blaugrana, under the coaching of Hansi Flick, are prepared to sign Joan Garcia as the next player to take Marc-André ter Stegen’s place, since the 33-year-old’s age and a recent injury have cast doubt on his starting position.

Depending on the terms of his contract and whether he is called up to the Spanish national team, his release clause, which is approximately 25 million euros (almost 27 million dollars), could increase.

Joan García’s height (1.91 m), LaLiga experience, and ability to make crucial saves make him stand out. He is the precise kind of young goalkeeper Barça and other clubs are looking for—one with a strong physical presence and a track record of success at the highest level.

Sources like Xavier Andreu, Espanyol’s communication director, and journalist Sergio Escario from MD support this desire, predicting that García will depart shortly because his transfer would bring significant financial benefits to the team. Despite his continued respect for Espanyol and its supporters, Joan has stated that he is ready to move forward in his career.

Who is Joan Garcia?

García, who was born in Sallent, Barcelona, Catalonia, started playing for his hometown team, CE Sallent, when he was four years old. His older brother encouraged him to switch to a goalkeeper. After playing for Manresa and Damm, he joined Espanyol’s youth teams in 2016 at the age of 15.

On September 28, 2019, García played in a 1-1 away tie against Valencia Mestalla in Segunda División B. He extended his contract with the Pericos through 2025 on February 11, 2020.

García made his professional debut on December 1, 2021, in the Copa del Rey, starting in a 3–2 victory over Solares-Medio Cudeyo on the road. On January 10, 2022, he started in a 1-2 home defeat to Elche, marking his official and LaLiga debut.

Garcia’s playing style

At Espanyol, the Spaniard honed his tactical and technical abilities, quickly rising to the top of their junior system. Coaches were impressed by his composure under duress, excellent reflexes, and shot-stopping skills, which led to opportunities for him to play for Espanyol’s B team.

His promotion to the Espanyol first squad was made possible by his performances, which showed maturity above his years. His transition from a promising young player to a professional goalie shows commitment and the importance of a strong foundation for growth.

García is a fantastic goalie who is renowned for his agility, composure, and fast thinking. His capacity to make important stops, especially when facing a single attacker. Now it will be interesting to see which club can land the young Spanish goalkeeper.
