AC Milan sporting director confirms Luka Modric will join club after FIFA Club World Cup 2025

The Croatian international is set for a move to Serie A.

The 2018 Ballon d’Or winner Luka Modric can soon be seen playing for the Italian giants AC Milan. The 39-year-old Croatian midfield sensation joined the LaLiga and European giants Real Madrid back in 2012 from the English Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur.

After his move to Los Blancos, Luka Modric has evolved to become one of the top midfielders of all time. He went on to win six UEFA Champions League titles with Real Madrid. Modric played his final match at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium as a Los Blancos star during the LaLiga 2024-25 match against Real Sociedad.

Luka Modric has also played a crucial role in leading the Croatia national football team. He led them to the FIFA World Cup 2018 final, where they fell short of winning the mega competition against France.

Modric will turn 40 in September 2025. He is still playing a crucial role for Real Madrid in the FIFA Club World Cup 2025. His contract expires at the end of the tournament, and Los Blancos have decided not to offer any more extensions to the Croatian international.

Luka Modric to join AC Milan

Multiple reports from various sources come into play and suggest that the Croatian midfielder might pull off a move to Serie A by joining AC Milan. But now the move actually looks confirmed as Luka Modric has verbally agreed to join the Italian giants, confirms Igli Tare, sporting director of AC Milan.

Tare told Gazzetta dello Sport:

“I spoke to him in person and saw a guy who is really eager to be competitive. His arrival is crucial for a group that needs players like him, leadership.”

“He is important for what he will convey in terms of mentality, leadership and professionalism. The fact that he is an AC Milan fan makes this story even more exciting, and it would be great for him to have a stellar season, as at the end of the season is the World Cup.”

The Serie A giants will welcome Luka Modric as soon as the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 comes to an end. It can be one of the most important signings for AC Milan, who struggled in their domestic league and the Champions League during their 2024-25 campaign.
