The Atalanta star won the 2024 African Men’s Footballer of the Year award

One of football’s most debated topics, the question of whether Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo is a greater player, does not appear to be coming to a definite conclusion.

Fans around the globe are divided over who really stands out among the sport’s biggest platforms, which have been dominated by the legendary duo for almost 20 years.

Ronaldo answers with an astounding array of individual honours that many can only dream of, while Messi has won a World Cup and received many other renowned laurels.

Given that both players have accumulated more than 1,200 goal involvements over their illustrious careers, it is not surprising that deciding which player is superior causes controversy and disagreement.

Ademola Lookman names his “GOAT”

Nigerian and Atalanta star Ademola Lookman has recently expressed his opinion about which player he believes to be superior, further escalating their long-running rivalry.

Atalanta superstar Ademola Lookman offered his opinion on the ongoing argument between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo in an interview with the media site Sporty TV, and he didn’t think twice about taking a side. The 27-year-old spoke quite bluntly,

“Ronaldo is my GOAT.”

Many people on the other side of the split seemed to be shaken by the former Everton star’s remarks, and many chose to express their opinions on social media. It’s obvious many will not agree with the striker’s opinion and football fans around the world will always have a different say when it comes to who is the best player in football between Messi and Ronaldo regardless of what club they support.

However, with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) awards approaching, Lookman hopes to make yet another impression on his fascinating football career.

The forward, who received a nomination for the coveted honour, is considered the front-runner to win Men’s Player of the Year (POTY). On December 16, the CAF POTY recipient will be announced at Marrakech’s Palais des Congrès.
