Cancelo has spent the last two seasons on loans at Bayern and Barcelona.

Al-Hilal have made their first attempt to sign Joao Cancelo. They have submitted an offer to Manchester City. Talks are underway with the player’s camp as well. Cancelo has been identified as a priority signing for the Saudi club by head coach Jorge Jesus.

Manchester City have been open to selling the full-back. He was loaned to Bayern Munich, but the German club decided to not retain him. He eventually returned to City.

Last season Barcelona enquired about the Portuguese player and signed him on a loan. But due to their financial problems, the Spanish club couldn’t manage to buy the player.

Pep Guardiola has no plans to keep the 30-year-old at the Premier League club ever since things fell out with the player. Since then City have been looking to get rid of Joao Cancelo. Cancelo has three years left on his City deal. The Premier League club will hope to sell him before his deal expires.

Saudi club Al-Hilal have approached City with an offer. It remains to be seen how things pan out. The reigning Saudi Pro League champions are aiming to bolster their squad for the 2024-25 season.

They had already brought in many top players such as Neymar, Alexander Mitrovic and Ruben Neves. Cancelo’s signing will further make their squad a strong side. His arrival will surely help the reigning champions to defend the title this term.

Cancelo’s ability to play on either side of the flanks makes him an excellent option. The player can also operate as an inverted midfielder. The Portuguese international often uses his creativity to create goalscoring chances.

However, his big issue is that he sometimes fails to defend properly which leads to goals. Overall he is an outstanding player and will be a massive signing for Al-Hilal.
