Manchester United's Alejandro Garnacho withdrawns from Argentina squad
Garnacho will return to United for further scans.
Manchester United ace Alejandro Garnacho has withdrawn from the Argentina squad for their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in October due to injury.
The 20-year-old played the full 90 minutes against Aston Villa in United’s Premier League goalless draw. Argentina are set to play Venezuela on Thursday, the second is at home to Bolivia.
Alejandro Garnacho: “I had knee problems in the last two matches, and I won’t be able to be with the national team. I hope to recover soon so I can be on the next date”.
The Madrid-born star has appeared seven times for the national team, he was also in the squad for Argentina’s Copa America 2024 1-0 win against Colombia in the final.
But it will be a setback for him given he has had an impressive start to the new season and would have hoped to continue with national for their upcoming World Cup qualifiers.
However, Ten Hag has praised Garnacho’s excellent start to the new campaign after their draw against Villa. But when asked about the club’s dismal performance in front of the goal he said:
‘’That will come. Sometimes it’s the form.”
‘’Rasmus Hojlund is just in the season, he is not up to 100 [per cent] fitness, match fitness. And he is our goalscorer, I would say our best goalscorer.”
‘’But also others, we know they can score goals, like Rashford. But he scored in Porto, he had a good assist in Porto, today he created two very good chances. I think Garnacho is all season already a threat, but also scoring and assisting. Bruno has abilities to score goals.”
Meanwhile, this season the Argentine forward has produced three goals and three assists for the club. Manchester United will hope that Garnacho has not suffered some serious injury and will be fit before the end of the October international break.
United are currently 14th in the Premier League table following a sluggish start to the new season and manager Erik ten Hag is already under a lot of pressure after their 0-0 draw against Villains has now put the former Ajax manager on the verge of getting sacked.
United will hope that before their next Premier League clash the Argentine will be fit as the club will hope to turn the fortunes around and regroup from their poor start to the new term.
