Following tweets about the Spaniard that went viral on social media, AFC Bournemouth are looking into defender Alex Jimenez’s alleged Instagram messages to a 15-year-old minor.
The Cherries have already taken prompt action against Alex Jimenez after the screenshots went viral on social media.
In a statement, the Cherries acknowledged that they were aware of the alleged posts, which purportedly depict Jimenez wanting to meet the 15-year-old girl.
Bournemouth acknowledge Alex Jimenez’s recent social media incident
The 21-year-old will not be eligible for selection for Saturday’s trip to Fulham, according to the club.
“AFC Bournemouth are aware of posts circulating on social media involving right-back, Alex Jimenez. The club understand the seriousness of the matter and it is currently being investigated.
“As a result, Alex will not be included in the squad for tomorrow’s Premier League game against Fulham and the club will be making no further comment at this time,” said a club statement.
Jimenez first joined Bournemouth on loan from AC Milan in the summer of last year. In February, the Cherries decided to pay £16.5 million to sign him permanently after his loan tenure ends this summer.
The defender has started for Andoni Iraola’s team in 30 of his 31 games this season. With three games left, Bournemouth are now in sixth position.
The Cherries are getting closer to qualifying for Europe, and they also have a good chance of making it into the UEFA Champions League the following season.
After playing Fulham on Saturday, Iraola’s team will host title-chasing Manchester City at the Vitality Stadium on Tuesday.
Iraola will leave the team at the end of the season. So, despite their possible heroics, it will be a season of transition on the south coast.
