Who is Andreas Georgson? Set-piece coach linked with Manchester United job
United are in talks with Lillestrom to bring Andreas Georgson to the club.
Ever since the overhaul of the Manchester United board, the club have made quick signings. They have also revamped their backroom staff, Benni McCarthy and Mitchell van der Gaag were replaced by Ruud van Nistelrooy and Rene Hake.
United aren’t set to stop here as they will continue to make changes in the squad and the backroom staff before the start of the new season. The club are now looking to bring in a new set-piece coach. Reports reveal that Andreas Georgson has been linked with the Old Trafford job.
Andreas Georgson boasts an excellent resume. Earlier he worked at Arsenal, Brentford and Southampton, where Jason Wilcox recruited him. Since then Wilcox has had a great relationship with the set piece coach. This could help United to make the move quickly.
Georgson could be on his way to United as the Red Devils are set to meet his current contract with Norwegian side Lillestrom.
Who is Andreas Georgson?
Andreas Georgson was appointed the manager of Lillestrom in December. But previously, he has worked as a set piece coach at Southampton and other Premier League clubs. He started his career at the age of 37, where he worked at Brentford and helped them reach the play-off final in the 2019–2020 season.
His work caught the eyes of Arsenal, who hired him in the 2021-22 season. After working there for a season, he was then recruited by the Saints in 2023 before he was offered a managerial job at Lillestrom.
Jason Wilcox has worked with Georgson at Southampton and is aware of his work, which has led to United showing interest in bringing him back to the Premier League. United are striving to bring about some major modifications at the club that will assist the team’s progress in the best possible way. They have been committed to achieving their objectives.
It looks likely that he may join the English top-flight club. Given he has experience working in the league, he can turn Manchester United into one of the most creative set-piece teams in the division.
Andreas Georgson is one of the best set-piece coaches. This will prove to be a smart move from the club given they had a poor set-piece record last season, scoring only nine goals from set pieces, the 15th-best record in the 2023-24 Premier League.
