The Reds have been handed a triple injury boost.

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has been cleared to play against Arsenal this weekend following a careless studs-up tackle by Newcastle United’s Anthony Gordon.

Rio Ngumoha had to score a goal in the 100th minute to give Liverpool a 3-2 victory at St. James’ Park on Monday night in order to extend their undefeated start to the Premier League season.

Despite completing the second half with 10 men after Gordon was sent off for a reckless tackle on Van Dijk, Newcastle did not lose easily. The Dutchman was able to continue playing after he was caught by the Magpies’ forward high on his leg.

Arne Slot has now stated that the club captain is healthy enough to play on Sunday when Liverpool meet Arsenal:

“Virgil [van Dijk] is okay, which is maybe the main thing you would question.”

However, that wasn’t the only encouraging injury update by Slot. He also mentioned that Alexis Mac Allister has returned after a slight setback, and Conor Bradley, who sustained an injury during the preseason, has finished a full week of training.

“The positive is that Conor Bradley, only had one or two training sessions before the Newcastle game and he has trained all this week.”

“There are two days to go. Alexis has started training too. I don’t think we had any injuries coming out of the [Newcastle] game.”

In the 80th minute of the Newcastle match, Bradley came on as a substitute for Florian Wirtz. Slot stated prior to kickoff that he was not healthy enough to start. But as the Northern Ireland international gets closer to match fitness, that might change this weekend.

Due to Jeremie Frimpong’s hamstring injury, Dominik Szoboszlai filled in as a makeshift right-back against the Magpies. It is anticipated that Frimpong won’t return until after the international break in September.
