Arsenal injury news for Manchester City clash in Premier League 2024-25 GW 5; Martin Odegaard update
The Gunners will travel to Etihad to play the defending champions.
Arsenal will face another tough game as they will travel to Etihad on Sunday. After edging local rivals Tottenham Hotspur 1-0, the Gunners will be confident when taking on Manchester City.
Mikel Arteta’s side are just two points below City. A win against them will see the Gunners climb the summit of the Premier League table. Arsenal manager Arteta has finally provided an update about Martin Odegaard’s availability.
Following an injury sustained during Norway’s UEFA Nations League encounter against Austria, Odegaard was unable to play in Tottenham Hotspur’s North London Derby. Arteta remained mum before that match and subsequently revealed the reason for the midfielder’s absence after scans on his injury.
Arteta said: “The scans showed that he’s got some damage, especially on one of the ligaments in the ankle. It’s something quite significant so we’re going to lose him for a while.”
But since then, it has appeared unlikely that the midfield player, who used crutches will play against Manchester City.
Arsenal injury update ahead of Manchester City clash
Mikel Merino, a recent addition, is still out due to a shoulder injury sustained during his first training session. On the other hand, Oleksandr Zinchenko is sidelined with a calf ailment. Kieran Tierney and Takehiro Tomiyasu are still out with longer-term injuries.
Arsenal once again are set to be without captain Odegaard in their crucial game against City on Sunday. After the scans, Mikel Arteta finally revealed the extent of his injury. The Norwegian is set to be out of action for a few weeks and will not be in the squad to face City.
Bukayo Saka is anticipated to be fit for Arsenal’s next games against Atalanta and Manchester City. The North London club are hopeful that his injury was limited to the Tottenham Hotspur encounter.
Kieran Tierney, who had a hamstring injury at Euro 2024, has returned to individual training. Tierney posted pictures of himself running on the London Colney pitch on Instagram, attesting to his development while not yet taking part in the entire team practice.
