Gabriel Martinelli is one of the two fresh players to get injured recently.
Due to injuries, Arsenal’s centre-back William Saliba and winger Gabriel Martinelli will not play against Brighton & Hove Albion tonight in the EFL Cup fourth round, coach Mikel Arteta announced on Tuesday.
In Sunday’s 1-0 Premier League victory over Crystal Palace at the Emirates, France international William Saliba was substituted at the interval by Cristhian Mosquera, while Brazilian Martinelli hobbled off the field following the final whistle.
Midfielder Declan Rice and defender Riccardo Calafiori also suffered an injury during the Palace match, but they have been cleared to play against Brighton. Additionally, up for selection is winger Bukayo Saka, who was forced to miss that game owing to illness.
Saliba and Martinelli won’t feature in the EFL Cup tie with Brighton

“He (William Saliba) is out (vs Brighton). We are assessing him, but he won’t be involved in this match,” Mikel aArteta told reporters, without providing a timeline for the 24-year-old’s return.
Discussing Martinelli’s condition, Arteta said, “It looks as though he’s going to be out. We have to do some more tests to see the extent of the injury, but this game will be too early for him.”
Meanwhile, with 22 points from nine games, Arsenal lead the Premier League standings. This season, they seem to have the depth in their roster to handle the injuries.
In addition to signing defender Mosquera, the North London team made significant additions during the offseason, adding centre-forward Viktor Gyokeres and strengthening their assault with Noni Madueke and Eberechi Eze.
Arsenal have not won the EFL Cup since the 1992-93 season. When they host Brighton, who are currently in 13th place in the Premier League, they will try to maintain their strong start to the season.
How long will Martinelli and Saliba be out?
Arteta has not provided their return timeline.
Which injury have they suffered?
Their exact injury issue has not been revealed.
Who else is injured?
Declan Rice and Riccardo Calafiori also suffered a knock but are cleared to play tonight.
