The Gunners are very close to adding Riccardo Calafiori to their squad in the ongoing transfer window

Arsenal are very much in the race to sign the Bologna defender, Riccardo Calafiori. The Gunners have made a lot of progress in the deal and are looking to finalise the signing with many other clubs in the race as well. The player from Italy is the top priority in the list of Mikel Arteta. He is versatile and can play either as a centre-back or as a left-back.

Calafiori had a fantastic showing in the Euro 2024 as well. He was part of the AS Roma squad when he was just eight years old. He stayed at the club for 12 years before making a move to FC Basel in 2022. He either played as a left-back or as a left wingback during his time at Basel. It was only after his move to Bologna that he was converted into a centre back.

He has been fantastic during his time at Bologna, helping them finish within top 4 and guaranteeing them a Champions League spot. He featured in all the group stage games for Italy in UEFA Euro 2024 but missed the Round of 16 due to suspension. His signing will be a great boost to Mikel Arteta’s side in the next season. In this article, we will take a look at how Arsenal can lineup after signing Riccardo Calafiori.

Arsenal predicted lineup after signing Riccardo Calafiori (4-3-3)

David Raya (GK)

David Raya is the first choice goalkeeper of Arsenal and looks set to start in majority of the games. He conceded only 30 goals in 44 games and kept 22 clean sheets during the previous 2023-24 season. With him signing permanently for Arsenal, he is set to start again for the Gunners.

Ben White (RB)

Ben White will start at the right-back position for Arsenal. He played 51 games in the last season. He scored 4 goals and assisted 5 in those games in the last season.

Gabriel Magalhaes (CB)

Gabriel Magalhaes is certain to start in the centre back position for Arsenal in the upcoming season. In the last season, he played 51 games and conceded 38 goals while keeping 22 clean sheets.

William Saliba (CB)

William Saliba is set to partner with Gabriel at the heart of the defence. Last season, the French defender played 59 games, conceded 43 goals and kept 28 clean sheets. Saliba also had an impressive Euro 2024 campaign.

Riccardo Calafiori (LB)

Now, the player in question, Riccardo Calafiori, is most probably going to start in the left-back position for Arsenal. In the last season, the left-footed defender played 42 games, scored 2 goals, conceded 31 and kept 19 clean sheets.

Declan Rice (CM)

Declan Rice is sure to be the base of midfield and help the defenders behind him. In the last season, he played 51 games, scored 7 goals and provided 10 assists. He is going to be important for Arsenal yet again in the upcoming season.

Jorginho (CM)

Jorginho is set to start with Rice and Odegaard in the midfield. The former Chelsea man scored 1 goal and provided 2 assists in the 36 games that he played in the last season. He will want to improve his stats in the next season.

Martin Odegaard (CAM)

Martin Odegaard is going to be one among the trio of midfielders. He will be yet again responsible for dictating the tempo of the game from the heart of the midfield. Last season, he played 48 games, scored 11 goals and provided 11 assists.

Bukayo Saka (RW)

Bukayo Saka has always been the danger man for Arsenal in attack. He was influential and was always involved in the attack for Arsenal last season. Saka scored 20 goals and provided 14 assists in the 47 games that he played. The Gooners will hope that he builds on his form in the next season. If Saka fires, Arsenal won’t have any issue in scoring goals consistently.

Kai Havertz (CF)

Kai Havertz stood up and played this role perfectly for Arsenal last season. So, he will definitely get the head start yet again in this position. In 51 games last season, he scored 14 goals and provided 7 assists. His involvement as the centre-forward started as an experiment. However, it is no longer an experiment as he has made this position his own by the end of the last season. Havertz can ruthlessly serve as the out and out number 9 and also show his creativity as a false 9.

Gabriel Martinelli (LW)

Gabriel Martinelli, the Brazilian, is set to start in the left-wing position for Arsenal next season. He scored 8 goals and provided 5 assists in the 44 games that he played last season. He was not at his best last season. Martinelli was earlier the first pick for Mikel Arteta in the starting lineup. However, he served as a substitute in nine of Arsenal’s final 10 league games last season. Mikel Arteta will trust him once more in the left-wing position at the start of the new season if Martinelli can impress in pre season.
