The Gunners’ board is set to undergo a reshuffle.

Arsenal are set to lose one of the most important members of their board as highly rated sporting director Edu is set to leave the club.

Edu has played an important role in bringing many top players to the club such as  Martin Odegaard and Declan Rice and reinforcing the club’s squad in order to keep the club from challenging for titles.

Edu has spearheaded the transformation of the Gunners under Mikel Arteta and turning the fortunes of the club by building from scratch and masterminding a better approach in their signing of quality players and also offloading fringe players such as Pierre Emerick Aubameyang.

However, the report of him leaving the club remains unclear as talks are still ongoing and more news is set to be undisclosed in the next 24 hours.

But is understood that Edu’s key reason for leaving the club is mainly due to the reshuffle in responsibilities at the club in key areas which is ‘too simplistic’ to suggest there has been a power struggle.

Edu has been regularly spotted in the photographs with new signings and has been the driving force behind the club’s cultural change. He was appointed because he understood the club’s needs and he has been praised regularly for his work.

Then director of football Raul Sanileh said: ‘We’re very excited that Edu is joining the team. He has great experience and technical football knowledge and most importantly is a true Arsenal man. He understands the club and what we stand for to our millions of fans around the world.’

In an interview, Edu revealed that he was proud to turn Arsenal into a title challenger and help Arteta build a strong side. ‘changing how people see our club and the vision people have of Arsenal compared to the past.’

The former Brazilian player was with Arsenal during his playing days when he was acquired by Arsene Wenger and he went on to play with the likes of the Invincibles team-mates such as Dennis Bergkamp, Patrick Vieira and Martin Keown.

‘I want to win the best way possible,’ he added. ‘When we win the trophy, it is because we did it the right way. Ask every single Arsenal fan how they feel about that.’ He spoke after Arsenal lost out in the title race against Manchester City.
