Julian Alvarez is willing to join the Spanish club.
Atletico Madrid want to get rid of Joao Felix, but so far no clubs have shown any interest in meeting the price tag of the player. However, the Spanish club could sell the player the Portuguese one way, as they are planning to loan Felix with the option to buy plus cash to Manchester City in a swap deal that involves Julian Alvarez.
Atletico are interested in signing the Argentine forward and feels they can get the player in a swap deal. City earlier had an interest in the former Benfica player, which dates back to before his loan move to Chelsea in 2023.
However, City have no plan to sell Alvarez, who is keen to join the Spanish club. The Premier League club has slapped £75 million plus a further £10 million based on success.
Felix has served his time on loan to Chelsea and Barcelona in the last two summers. During his time in England, he netted four goals in 20 games, while for the Spanish club, he netted ten times in 44 appearances.
Felix is not part of Diego Simeone’s plans for next season, despite featuring on the Atletico pre-season tour. The forward has been unhappy during his time at the club, but his price has been a key issue for other clubs to sign him permanently.
Meanwhile, Alvarez has not been shy of expressing his desire to leave City for more game time, and in a recent interview, he said:
‘Last season, I was one of the players with the most minutes at City. But… in the end, you don’t like being left out of important matches; you want to contribute,’ Alvarez said.
‘I’ll take my time to think about what I want for myself. We will see after the Games. First, if I can, I will take a few days off. Then we will decide.’
Man City already have two players operating from the left wing, and signing Felix doesn’t make sense for them if they are looking to offload either Jack Grealish or Jeremy Doku.
Felix could be a perfect replacement for Grealish, given that the England international has never hit that form since he arrived at the club for a British transfer record.
If Alvarez doesn’t get guaranteed game time, then he can force his way out of the club this summer, as we have still one month left for the transfer window to shut down.
