Australia will face Türkiye in a competitive game for the first time.

Australia will face Türkiye in their opening Group D fixture of the FIFA World Cup 2026 at BC Place in Vancouver on Saturday, June 13. The USA have already topped the group by defeating Paraguay 4-1 on June 12.

The Socceroos qualified for the summer tournament, finishing in the top spots of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) qualification campaign. Australia also defeated Japan under Tony Popovic, who replaced Graham Arnold as the side’s head coach.

Jordan Bos, Nestory Irankunda, and Mohamed Toure are expected to play crucial roles in Australia’s success at the FIFA World Cup. The Aussies have won only two of their last five matches, but they would hope to perform better at the summer competition.

Meanwhile, Türkiye are arriving at the summer tournament in decent form; they are undefeated in their last five games and held Spain to a 2-2 draw. They qualified for the World Cup through European play-offs.

The Crescent-Stars finished second in their UEFA qualifying group, behind Spain. Thus, they had to qualify for the play-offs, where they defeated Romania and Kosovo to secure their spot at the FIFA World Cup 2026.
