Barcelona desperate to sell Frenkie de Jong; player offered to Manchester United
The Dutchman has two years left on his Spanish club deal.
Barcelona are yet to make any signings this summer window, despite talks to bring some players to bolster their squad. However, another major thing they need to do is sell some players to generate profit and one of the players who always makes transfer rounds has been Frenkie de Jong.
New reports indicate that the club is now desperate to sell the midfielder, but his massive wages could impede the transfer to another club.
The Dutchman is currently earning a hefty salary at the club, and Barcelona have been looking to offload it from their financial books.
The Spanish club have made no secret about selling Frenkie de Jong for a very long time, but the midfielder has always been reluctant to leave. In 2022, the club was forced to sell the player, with Manchester United willing to sign him, but the player had no intention to leave and remained at Barcelona.
Ever since de Jong joined the club, he has had inconsistent time in Spain, and the midfielder has always been involved in transfer speculation. But he has always been adamant about moving away and has been often criticised during the games by fans.
Barcelona could once again try to sell the player, with United always ready to pounce on the chance to sign him, but the midfielder’s decision is always going to be key.
The former Ajax player has two years left on his deal, and Barcelona wouldn’t want to lose their precious asset for free, so maybe they will once again force the player to leave this summer.
There have always been many suitors for the 27-year-old, with the likes of Bayern Munich and Chelsea also interested in signing him previously.
Meanwhile, Barcelona will hope to make a few signings before the end of the transfer window. So far the club has looked without a plan in the market, and if they fail to sign any players, then once again they will have to depend on their academy players for next season.
