Barcelona & Inter Milan monitoring Enzo Fernandez situation at Chelsea: Report
The midfielder came off the bench against the Red Devils.
Enzo Fernandez has been targeted by two big clubs Inter Milan and Barcelona. The midfielder has struggled to demonstrate a convincing performance following the arrival of new manager Enzo Maresca.
The midfielder was on the bench against Manchester United which surprised the fans as the Argentine is always in the starting lineup against big sides.
Maresca instead deployed Romeo Lavia and Moises Caicedo. The coach revealed he prefers their physicality. Suddenly this has put a big question mark if the former Benfica player will be a starter under the Italian coach.
However, the most expensive signing is understood to be ready to fight for his starting spot at Chelsea despite the reports emerge regarding his uncertain future at the club.
Both Barcelona and Inter are keeping an eye on his situation at Chelsea. If he continues to remain second choice in the squad then he could opt to leave the club.
Fernandez has remained under the spotlight ever since Chelsea broke the bank to buy the midfielder. The 23-year-old was one of the most expensive signings for the west Londoners.
Maresca said ahead of Chelsea’s clash with United: “They are human beings and if you pay £100m that is not my problem.”
“You want to buy me then you pay that money. That does not mean that every game you have to be the best. At the end of the day they are football players and they cannot always be at the top level.”
“At this moment Enzo is not playing but there is no problem with Enzo. The noise about Enzo is because clubs pay so much money for them, people expect they will always be the best. That is not so.”
“The only reason he is not playing is just because the physicality I prefer is from (Moises) Caicedo and Romeo Lavia.”
It will be interesting to see if Fernandez will be able to return to his form as he will now have to fight for his place in the middle of the pitch given the depth of Chelsea‘s squad.
