The Brazilian is currently in talks to join Santos.
Neymar has been connected to leaving Al-Hilal, and Barcelona’s sporting director has shared his thoughts on the Brazilian’s future.
After his time at Barcelona, Neymar’s career has not reached the kind of pinnacle that was expected of him. Despite a string of injuries in recent years, the Brazilian is still regarded by many as a modern-day football great. In fact, since moving from PSG to Al-Hilal in 2023, Neymar has only appeared in seven games.
The 32-year-old Neymar’s contract with Al-Hilal is scheduled to expire at the end of the current campaign, and the Saudi Pro League team is not interested in extending it. Because of this, there have been rumours that the Brazilian is thinking about rejoining his childhood team, Santos, in Brazilian Serie B.
Over the years, Neymar has also been tangentially associated with a return to Barcelona. Deco, the Brazilian sporting director for the Catalan team, has now revealed where Neymar might go after his current contract expires.
Speaking to TNT Sports Brazil, Deco said: “Neymar’s return to Barca was always a long way off. Since he moved to Saudi Arabia, we knew he was a very expensive player, especially in terms of financial fair play.
When asked where Neymar could head after Al-Hilal, Barcelona’s Deco added: “The most important thing is that Neymar returns to playing football. That will bring joy to himself and to others. Honestly, I don’t know what he will do, but the most important thing is that he is happy.”
Neymar is only going to be allowed to play in the Asian Champions League and won’t be registered for the second half of the Saudi Pro League season, according to Al-Hilal manager Jorge Jesus. This suggests that a January departure may still be possible.
The reports have stated that Al-Hilal will allow the forward to join the Brazilian club on loan for the remainder of the season.
