The Reds are pushing to sign the German playmaker.

According to Christian Falk, Bayer Leverkusen have turned down a second bid for German playmaker Florian Wirtz from English champions Liverpool.

According to reports, the second bid included €12 million in bonus payments in addition to a fixed amount of €118 million ($134 million). According to Falk, Liverpool made an initial bid of €100 million plus an additional €15 million.

Executives at Leverkusen are aiming for the €150 million minimum transfer fee that managing director Fernando Carro stated in public last year. According to reports, the exorbitant price for the 22-year-old is one of the reasons Manchester City left the race.

More negotiations will be held to close the €20 million shortfall, and a player may be added to the agreement in exchange. According to reports, Leverkusen are considering defender Jarell Quansah or Harvey Elliott of Liverpool.

There is no release clause in Wirtz’s contract, which runs until June 2027 with the former Bundesliga champions.

They initially promised £84 million plus an extra £12.6 million in bonuses. They increased their offer after it was turned down and presented a £109.6 million package, but both were eventually pushed back.

Before they think about letting their playmaker leave, the German team wants €150 million. They “would never let Wirtz leave” for less than their valuation, according to an earlier statement made by their club chief, Fernando Carro.

Liverpool have already reached an agreement with Leverkusen after acquiring Jeremie Frimpong this summer. The Dutchman, who cost £30 million to sign after the Reds invoked their release clause at the BayArena, will fill the vacuum left by Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Erik ten Hag declined to comment on potential departures after being announced as Bayer Leverkusen manager

Erik ten Hag, who was recently named the club’s new manager after Xabi Alonso left, declined to comment on potential departures prior to the start of the preseason. Jonathan Tah, Leverkusen’s star defender, left the team after his contract with them expired and joined Bayern Munich.
