The German midfielder has drawn interest from many top clubs.
Florian Wirtz, 21, is a winger for Bayer Leverkusen, and Bayern Munich are willing to pay a high price to entice the much-sought-after Germany international.
Former Bayern Munich executives Uli Hoeness and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge have made Wirtz’s signing a personal affair, according to L’Equipe.
According to the publication, Hoeness had multiple meetings with Florian’s father and agent, Hans-Joachim Wirtz.
According to L’Equipe, Wirtz’s acquisition would be the most expensive transaction in Bayern Munich’s history, topping Harry Kane’s €100 million move from Tottenham Hotspur two years prior.
In order to pair Wirtz with his compatriot Jamal Musiala in Bavaria, the Rekordmeister would pay their Bundesliga opponents, Bayer Leverkusen, an astounding €125 million without bonuses.
The allure of Wirtz and Musiala performing together appears to be rather obvious. The German pair are ranked second and fourth, respectively, in terms of goal contributions this season among all attacking midfielders in Europe’s top five divisions.
Wirtz would be paid €125 million over the course of a five-year contract that would end in 2030. It has been believed that Wirtz and the Bundesliga’s aspiring champions had already reached a verbal agreement.
Max Eberl and Christoph Freund, the sporting directors, have been given the responsibility of trimming down Vincent Kompany’s team and bringing in quality players for next season.
Bayern are on the verge of winning the title this season after coming second previous campaign. They will also hope to compete for other trophies, such as the UEFA Champions League, in the upcoming season. Hence, they will aim to give Kompany a competitive squad.
This summer, it may be possible to raise money to sign Wirtz by selling Kim Min-jae, Sacha Boey, Raphaël Guerreiro, Palhinha, Leon Goretzka, Kingsley Coman, and Serge Gnabry.
Bayern will hope to offload the deadwood and make some big signings. They want to end their top trophy droughts and return to the top level in European competition.
