Bayern Munich reject Manchester United's double bid for Matthijs de Ligt & Noussair Mazraoui
Both players have agreed personal terms to join Erik ten Hag’s Premier League side.
Manchester United ramped up their chase on Thursday by submitting a combined proposal for the Bayern Munich defenders Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui.
The Bundesliga giants turned down United’s offer. They told United that a bigger price would be required to come to a deal. Rafaela Pimenta, the players’ agent, is said to have believed that United’s offer would be sufficient to close both contracts.
Pimenta’s team is therefore confused by Bayern‘s choice to turn down the offer. According to Ornstein, De Ligt and Mazraoui have agreed personal terms on five-year contracts with a one-year extension option with the Red Devils.
In light of Leny Yoro’s recent setback, United are once again on the lookout for a central defender. The 18-year-old’s foot injury, which he received while playing against Arsenal on the US pre-season tour, will force him to miss three months of action.
The possibility of Mazraoui joining the team might indicate that Aaron Wan-Bissaka is getting closer to joining West Ham.
Both Bayern players were members of the Ajax team that won the Eredivisie. They already have experience playing under Erik ten Hag, as he was their coach in the Netherlands.
Mazraoui has been considered as a full-back option because of his versatility. But a deal so far never happened because United could not move further until an agreement was reached to let Aaron Wan-Bissaka go.
After the former Crystal Palace player agreed terms with West Ham for a move, negotiations over a final sum between Manchester United and the East London club are underway.
Manchester United also want to sign Manuel Ugarte, a top player for Paris Saint-Germain, to improve their midfield options in addition to fortifying their defence.
The Uruguayan midfielder has already agreed personal terms to join the Old Trafford hosts. But negotiations have halted because the Ligue 1 winners are demanding a bigger transfer fee payment.
