The right-back returned to Bayern after his loan spell at Leverkusen.
Josip Stanišić returned to Bayern Munich after his loan spell at Bayer Leverkusen. He has suffered a major injury. The defender has picked up an external ligament rupture in his right knee. It will keep him out for several weeks.
Reports confirm that the player has successfully undergone surgery after tearing his collateral ligament in his right knee during Monday’s training session.
This is another big blow for Bayern Munich. They already lost Hiroki Ito, a new signing, who injured his foot during the training session ahead of the new campaign.
Stanišić, who won the Bundesliga with Leverkusen last season, was seen as a key player under new manager Vincent Kompany. He was expected to fill in the right-back role. But his injury has left Komapny with a big blow.
The club recently sold Noussair Mazraoui to Manchester United. Sacha Boey is currently closing in on a return from an injury. But he is not expected to be in the starting lineup even if he comes back from the injury.
This means Joshua Kimmich is expected to fill in the right-back spot for Bayern’s opening Bundesliga game against VfL Wolfsburg. Another option the former Burnely head coach can use is Adam Aznou.
Stanisic was crucial in helping Leverkusen end Bayern’s dominance in the league and help them win the title last season. His performance has certainly impressed Kompany. The former Man City player turned coach will be hoping for the player to return to action soon as the Croatian international will be counted on this season.
It will be a fresh start for Bayern under the new manager. They will once again look to claim their league hegemony this season. The club went trophyless last term, which was an unusual campaign for the club.
Kompany’s appointment came as a big surprise for the fans. The former Belgium player couldn’t help Burnley avoid relegation in the 2023-24 Premier League despite leading them a season prior to the English top flight.
The fans will look at the positive side and expect the former City player to start his new stint in a winning way.
