Brazil were the runners-up of the 2021 Copa America.

Brazil always expect to win when they compete in an important contest of any kind. This time is no exception.

The Brazilians have reached the final in their past two tournament appearances. But, in the most recent US edition, they did not go past the group stage for the first time since 1987.

After Carlo Ancelotti decided to remain with Real Madrid, Dorival Junior was hired in to take over this side in January. In his four games in command of the national team, the man who led Flamengo to the 2022 Copa Libertadores title remains undefeated.

Since being defeated 2-0 by Mexico in a friendly played in the United States in June 2012, Selecao have not lost a game against a CONCACAF opponent in more than a decade.

Although Brazil‘s initial performances under Junior have been somewhat better than those of his disastrous predecessor, Fernando Diniz, this Brazilian team is nothing like the one Tite oversaw from 2016 to 2022, giving up six goals in their last three games.

Los Ticos, who prevailed in their first two games by a total score of 7-0, are off to a strong start in their quest for a fourth consecutive FIFA World Cup appearance.

However, Gustavo Alfaro will have fierce opposition in this Copa America 2024 event’s group stage—a competition they haven’t participated in since 2016. In their last six international matches, Costa Rica have won four and lost just one, 3-1 defeat to Argentina.

Los Ticos have won 15 of their previous 16 meetings when they have scored the first goal. They have not conceded in either of their last three competitive games.
