Memphis Depay stood on the ball with both feet, which led to the ban.

The CBF has declared that a player who stands on the ball will henceforth receive a yellow card, and the opposition team will receive a goal kick.

Among the stars who have criticized the Brazilian Football Confederation’s (CBF) new rule that penalizes players who stand on the ball with both feet are Neymar and Memphis Depay.

Players that perform so will now receive a yellow card, and the opposition team will receive an indirect free kick, the CBF informed all domestic league clubs.

According to the CBF’s letter, the act of standing on the ball “in addition to the player risking an injury, generates widespread disruptions in games, is considered a provocation to a rival and disrespects the game.”

“Football is getting more and more boring,” Santos captain Neymar wrote on Instagram.

Memphis Depay, a star for Corinthians, believes that officials should pay more attention to other factors than whether a player is standing on a ball.

The players from Palmeiras were agitated by Depay’s recent action during the Campeonato Paulista final, which his club won.

The Netherlands international stated following Saturday’s 3-0 league victory against Vasco da Gama: “I don’t know what the VAR did, in the first half they should have checked, it was a clear foul for a red card. What are we talking about, though, when they would rather make regulations like not being allowed to get on the ball here [in Brazil]?

“If we carry on like this, those who decide things in soccer are doing the wrong things. I want to be clear about this, Brazil is a country where we play soccer, you don’t just play soccer with your feet, you also play with your head. They have to do a better job.”

After leaving Atletico Madrid, Depay signed a two-year contract with Corinthians in September. Since then, the former Manchester United player has made 32 appearances in all competitions, tallying 10 goals and dishing out 12 assists.
