Chelsea accept Atletico Madrid's £33m offer for Conor Gallagher
The England international is yet to agree to a personal deal with the LaLiga club.
Chelsea have agreed to Atletico Madrid’s offer of £33 million (42.42 million) before add-ons for Conor Gallagher. The Blues plan to sell the midfielder before his contract expires next summer. Gallagher had earlier turned down a new two-year deal with an option to extend at Stamford Bridge.
However, the England international is yet to agree personal terms with the Spanish side. He is still deciding on his future at the club in the coming days. The Blues have previously made their stance clear. They will sell the midfielder if he does not renew his deal with the club.
Gallagher has also turned down an offer from Aston Villa. It remains to be seen if he will agree personal terms with Atletico Madrid. The England international became a key figure at the club last season under departed manager Mauricio Pochettino.
Gallagher’s performance also elevated his transfer value. It will benefit the Blues financially if Gallagher decides to accept a move to the LaLiga side. Chelsea have been busy this summer with new signings. They have already recruited quite a few players since the transfer window opened.
Meanwhile, Los Colchoneros have also been busy in the transfer window. They are in talks with Villarreal over a transfer for Alexander Sørloth and have already signed Robin Le Normand.
Gallagher has a big decision to make about his Chelsea future. It also depends on the manager Enzo Maresca’s decision if he will fit into his system. The academy player was the backbone of the previous manager’s system.
Although Gallagher’s resilient pressing did well under the previous manager, it will be intriguing to see what role Gallagher plays under Enzo Maresca. Maresca prefers possession-based football from his players.
Gallagher will be an ideal player for Atletico Madrid, given that he will suit Diego Simeone’s style, who places much value on being aggressive without the ball. Gallagher is excellent off the ball and likes to nullify his opponents with aggressive pressing.
So it remains to be seen what decision the England international will make about his future in the coming days.
